THE PROBLEM

When choosing a lubricant, viscosity stability and lubricity are very important parameters to consider.  Introduction of water into the lubricant will lead to a reduction in these properties, resulting in increased wear and eventual system component failure.

The effects of water ingress into lubricating oils are:

• reduced viscosity
• reduced lubricity
• formation of rust
• reduced filterability
• formation of emulsions
• bacterial growth
• oxidation
• formation of corrosive acids

Consequently lubricating and hydraulic systems should be maintained water free at all times.

THE SOLUTION

In the past the removal of water from lubricating and hydraulic systems has proven to be a difficult task, particularly in applications where:

• oil viscosities > 100 cSt
• synthetic oils with specific gravities equal to that of water are used
• stable emulsions are formed
• the maximum permissible water content is < 100 ppm

However, the water removal efficiency of the CJC Desorbers offer the opportunity to maintain a water free system at all times regardless of the above factors.
